Following a career as a graphic designer, an ongoing appreciation of contemporary art and craft led Karen to transfer her design skills to making.

As an artist and maker, her practice focuses on how light reacts with her materials. Working predominantly in ceramics, textiles and wood, she allows the materials to show their inner beauty without distraction. For her BA in Fine Art dissertation, she explored her emotional relationship with the colour white, which has been fundamental to her practice. Additionally, she examined her deep appreciation for porcelain, a material that has resonated with her throughout her studies and practice.​
