about

Karen Painter is an artist and maker with a particular interest in ceramics, wood and textiles, incorporating light within her work.

Following a successful career as a graphic designer and an ongoing appreciation of art, particularly contemporary craft, has led Karen to transfer her design skills to making.

The natural properties of materials are of importance to Karen. Wherever possible, she works with recycled or locally sourced materials.

Most recently, she has explored the subject of loss, grief and memory, encapturing how our coping mechanisms serve us in times of pain.

As part of the final year of her BA in Fine Art and Contemporary Arts Practice, Karen is exploring the relationship between light and clay, in particular porcelain, and is developing her works to recreate traditional chandeliers using modern processes and influences.
